The Local Coordination Committees in Syria (LCC) calls on human rights defenders around the world to join is in the demand for the immediate release of activists Razan Zeitouneh, Wael Hamada, Nazem Hamadi, and Samira Al-Khalil. These human rights defenders were kidnapped from the Violations Documentation Center in Douma, Damascus, on December 10, and their whereabouts are unknown.
At a time when the world is mourning the death of Nelson Mandela, we must remember that there are other Mandelas around the world. These activists were inspired and informed by Mr. Mandela’s work, and were promoting concepts of nonviolence and civil resistance in Syria even at a time when the regime has violated every possible tenet of human rights. Failure to call for their release is tantamount to failing in all that Human Rights defenders stand for in the call against tyranny.
Please join our campaign by using the hashtag #FreeRazan, retweeting and sharing the LCC’s updates, and calling on international leaders to exert pressure on the Assad regime and all armed groups to release these activists immediately.
We also call on all members of the international media to join our campaign, and to demand that the international community undertake strong and meaningful diplomatic action to secure the release of our activists.
