The village of Ebleen is the hometown of the Lieutenant Colonel Hussein Harmoush who defected at the beginning of the revolution. His brother Mahmoud was coordinating with the people in the area to facilitate the escape of soldiers and officers who defect from the army. One day before, he was hosting 15 soldiers and two officers in his sister’s home to prepare for their escape out of the country

This morning (8 September 2011) at 6.00 AM, security forces advanced in civilian cars accompanied by tanks to the peaceful village. At first they started shelling the family home with tanks without warning, fire erupted inside the house. This was followed by dense firing on the soldiers who tried to defend themselves. Seven soldiers have died and three solders and an officer managed to escape. Mahmoud Harmoush escaped with them also even though he was injured. the rest have disappeared in the area.

Later, security agents tied the dead soldiers to their tanks and they pulled their bodies in the streets. They also brutally assaulted 5 soldiers that were arrested.

Security forces later arrested the 75 years old house owner along with his old wife and son. A lot of women and children were also arrested because they were relatives of Hussein Harmoush. Tanks continued destroying houses in the village and they destroyed 15 homes completely, including one of my relatives’ home.

The judge set the bail at 10,000 Syrian Poinds which is the amount set by the new presidential decree that raised the financial obligations for demonstrators tens of times the original amount. The bail used to be previously set at 500-1000 syrian pounds only.

Mamoun Mahmoud Hmeish was arrested today for no known reasons from his work place at the “inspection and observation” administration, he was taken to an unknown destination. He is a father of two
