Amer Ahmad, nicknamed “Abou Haydara” continues to serve as a captain in the army, and for the past several months, has committed the most heinous of crimes against the residents of Jassem. His crimes have ranged from intimidating and abusing activists and their families to cold-blooded murder.
An activist recently obtained the captain’s telephone number, and contacted him to say, “You are responsible for killing four martyrs, and we will hold you accountable.”
The captain’s reply was, “If only I had killed fifty thousand and not just four,” referring to the population of Jassim and indicating his willingness to continue in his evil and criminal acts until the bitter end.
Captain Amer Ahmad had fired on the martyr Osama Al-Jalam at the center of Freedom Square on October 20, 2011. Similarly, Abd Hussein Al-Haj was arrested by a patrol led by the aforementioned captain on November 12, 2011; he became a martyr and his corpse was found hours later behind his house, his neck slashed by the butt of a rifle. Martyr Sami Al-Hari was treated in the same manner: he was arrested on December 11, 2011 at the Abi Tammam roundabout, and his corpse was handed over to his family two hours later.
These crimes are in addition to continuous threats, intimidation, and raids, as well as threats to return those in detention as corpses and to arrest family members in exchange for wanted activists.
We in the Jassem Coordinating Committee demand that the above-named captain be added to the list of regime members who are on the International Community’s sanctions list, so that he might be held accountable and be prosecuted after the fall of the regime. We are ready to provide the necessary documentation and evidence to convict the captain of criminal acts against the people of Jassem. We can provide 50,000 signatures of residents of Jassim corroborating that this butcher, along with his colleagues listed below, were guilty of killing, repression, and abuse:
