Generosity and pride are amongst Al-Salamiyeh peoples’ morals.
After Friday’s demonstration 2011-6-17 the protesters distributed candy among them and certainly didn’t exclude security forces. They were happy that their protest went peacefully as there were no thugs attacking them this time. The demonstration only lasted 30 minutes as they were careful not to disturb the students who are preparing for their final exams. Clearly, these civil demonstrations annoyed the regime thugs so they went up the town hall and used giant speakers and played songs that glorify Al-Asad loudly while they marched throughout the town’s streets deliberately making noises to disturb the people. Around 9pm that day, the thugs attacked Bloudan sweets store owned by Anas Al-Jazzar from Hama who loved to live and work in Salamiyeh. The thugs completely destroyed the store and beat Anas and then went to Al-Mayous to provoke a sectarian brawl which didn’t happen thanks to the wisdom of our people. The thugs continued their noisy provocative parade till late that night deliberately to disturb people’s night sleep. We, the people of Salamiyeh declare that they exonerate themselves from these mercenaries who are raged because of the strong bonds between the people. We, the people of Salamiyeh belong to one sect: Syria. What the thugs did and continue to do will only make us more determined to gain our freedom and dignity. Our squares and plazas can fit all pro and opposition. Even when we disagree in our thoughts, we are consistent on the need to preserve our peace and unity.
